Introduction, New 840 Owner was created by lyndonlondon
Hi everyone

I'm a complete cmc newbie, I have just bought an 840 and I have some plans for it...

I make banjos as a hobby and I have a couple of ideas that require a cnc.

As a starter project, I would like to try some simple inlays, a scull & cross bones, for example. I have Inkscape and I have a SVG of a scull & cross bones. I could save the image as a .dxf if it would help.

Am I on the right track?

Another idea is to make finger boards, this would require cutting the 0.6mm slots for fret wire (amongst other things). Is this feasible?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

:)

And Banjos...

You are already familiar with Inkscape? If not and you have anyhow to learn a new Program then I would recommend to start directly with a CAD Program. ;)

It's not only about tools it's also about skills! ;)

Hi Worldhusky

I am using AutoDesk Fusion 360 for CAD CAM and Mach3 for the g code.

I have Inkscape on my Mac but I don't really know it.

It's a steep learning curve but I am a determined sort of guy...

Sounds good to me! ;)

Why not? If you are able to align and secure the workpiece to the SC table and if you have a 0.6 mm or less diameter mill it should be possible.

It's not only about tools it's also about skills! ;)
