LaserGRBL/image2Laser + UCCNC was created by M4TiN
hi erveryone!!! :)

i got my 840/2 black edition 2 weeks ago...
build it... installed everything... and it works very well! :)

i use the uccnc usb version... and the DL445 Laser to engrave on wood.

the plugin in uccnc works well...
but im looking for a software like image2laser... LaserGRBL or other
to produce the g code to have more opportunities like diagonal engraving and so on...

and now... there is my question...
does anyone here have experience with UCCNC and Laser engraving ??
sitting in front of my pc for about 35 hours... and did not get it working like it should.... :(
why does the uccnc plugin uses Q commands instead of the s command
for the pwm signal?

i tried out a lot of gcodes out of other software...
but it seems... uccnc does understand it... but not absolutely correct....

is there any software or other settings in uccnc to make it work right?

THX in advance ... Martin Klinglmayr

I tried this SW as well and failed without manually changing G-code afterwards.

I do not use it anymore because the stepcraft UCNC SW has it's own version as an macro attached. Look up the Stepcraft videa I posted in the other thread.

Have you tried PicLaser?
www.picengrave.com/PicLaser.htm
I downloaded the trail version a while ago to test it out, but still haven't gotten around to it.
There is a chance the G-Code might need to have some small adaptations, depending on what that program lets you customize.

So I just spent a bit of time trying PicLaser, ...

The program did successfully produce G-Code that worked on the Stepcraft.

For this I set the output to Standard GCode.
Pre-Code COmmands:
M3;
Post-Code Commands:
M5; M30;
Laser Off Command: M11
Laser Control COmmand M10 Q-

I still have not sorted out the power or speed settings, though.
Settings to NOT try (much to strong):
Feed Rate 800 mm/min
Pixel Resolution 0.0550 mm (not sure where this came from)
Max Laser Value 120
Min Laser Value 80

(appears to be a piece of birch - now with significant craters from two separate attempts at settings)

Looking through the g-code, the hyphen was transcribed into the produced code - I'm not sure how UCCNC translated it. I had thought limiting the power at 120, at 800 mm/min would be sufficient. The other possibility could be limiting the pixel resolution.

The program doesn't seem to smart, but this does seem to be a proof of concept, though, and with some correct settings, something like the examples on the developers website should be able to be produced.

Has anyone else had success?
Cheers

The above was a bit of a cross-post. Sorry for that!
In the separate PicLaser post I made while trying to sort out my settings, I replied with (almost) the correct settings. As I've already lead down the path here, I'll post the answer. I wouldn't be offended if I should just delete both of my last two messages from here, though.

Feed Rate: 1650 mm/min
Pixel Resolution: 0.1524
Max laser value: 255,
Min laser value: 10 (should likely be higher to avoid blowing out/missing light greys)
Laser Off Command: M11
Laser Control Command: M10 Q
Select orientation of the lines, then 'Std. Gcode'
Pre-Code: M3;
PostCode: M5; M30

Cheers
