Estlcam and arduino was created by Whakahere
I just bought a stepcraft 420 and while I am waiting for the next four weeks I want to get the connections sorted. I have decided on Estlcam for this machine. I understand that arduino uno is used to connect it. My question is, does it have to be an arduino uno. I have very limited knowledge about the functions of arduino and the boards. I do have some digistump oak boards (kickstarter got me).
digistump.com/oak/

It can run arduino so I have my fingers crossed.

Yes, only a Arduino UNO R3 or a 100% clone will work.

Hi,

make sure you get a genuine Arduino UNO - some clones (especially on eBay) will not work.

Where is the manual to wire up Arduino to stepcraft for Estlcam. I got a letter yesterday saying the cnc machine arrives tomorrow. I was expecting it in 3 weeks so time for crash course.

I now have it up and running. Well I did, but I found out that my x-axis spindle was too long so I had to send it back to stepcraft. UPS says it is on it's way today :D

Connecting it to Arduino wasn't too scary after all :) But I went the Arduino route because I saw brokking.net with his set up with a switch so it will turn off the mill when the red button is pushed. Now I have the same relay switch as him but I'm not sure how to wire it up correctly. Anyone with some tips?

@Christian Knüll I also bought Estlcam today and I was thinking I had seen your name somewhere, then I saw your email address ...... here is my first big wing back in 2012 .... you might notice the design :D

Maybe a custom plcb drawing ?

i saw there are some infos in the DE forum but can't really understand them good enaugh.

Hello guys, Sorry for asking but do anybody have an idea on how to wire arduino to stepcraft then use estlcam. @christian the tutorial on your website is very helpful and easy to understand but my problem is how to connect the UNO to the stepcraft. any links or tutorials would be helpful. thank you

I found this in the web: ESTLCAM-LPT

This is the minimum you need for a running system.

In addition you can connect following the manual: Stepcraft LPT

- PIN 7 Arduino to LPT PIN 11 failure
- PIN 6 Arduino to LPT PIN 10 sensor
- PIN 5 Arduino to LPT PIN 17 and out to SUB D 15 PIN 7 (think so...) PWM
- PIN 4 Arduino to LPT PIN 1 Relais spindel on off
- PIN 3 ARduino to LPT PIN 14 2. relais
- PIN 2 Arduino to LPT PIN 16 3. relais
- PIN 8 - 13 Arduino, one of them to LPT PIN 12; end-switch

Good everyone, docbrown, im looking to your info but I cant get the idea of the wirings(sorry, im not a electrical guy.) Please bear with me.

here's the pins from arduion(from brokking.net)

arduino to LPT stepcraft(15pins)

GND to LPT pin?, im guessing this as pin 2, based from service connection to stepcraft.
A0(direction x)to LPT pin?
A1(direction y)to LPT pin?
A2(direction z)to LPT pin?
A3(step x)to LPT pin?
A4(step y)to LPT pin?
A5(step z)to LPT pin?
D8(relayx/y/z)to LPT pin?

im excited to run my stepcraft but totally stock to this issue.

thank you very much for any help.

Norman

Arduino LPT1 25Pin
GND 18
A0 (direction X) 2
A1 (direction Y) 4
A2 (direction Z) 6
A3 (step X) 3
A4 (step Y) 5
A5 (step Z) 7
D8 (X/Y/Z limit switch) 12

ARDUINO to LPT 25 pin, not to 15Pin PORT!!!

Thanks again doc brown.

my stepcraft has only 15pins LPT...i dont know if this is a second generation version. thats why im having a problem following the instruction.

let me know if i dont have a choice to use estlcam.

You have a Stepcraft with a USB board! if you want to use the Estlcam Arduino controller you need to exchange this board with the parallel adapter from Stepcraft!
Then you have a 25 pin LPT port!

Parallel Port

The 15 pin port has some other functions: Stepcraft ports

You don't need the parallel board if you want to use EstlCAM / Arduino. You can directly replace the USB module, see here:
Arduino-Shield

(You have to search backwards to find the latest version)

SC 420 mit DIY parallel + Proxxon mit Mod + HF500 + SprintLayout + LibreCAD/QCAD + FreeCAD +WinPC starter/USB->EstlCAM + EstlCAM LPTAdapter + EstlCAM Handrad + DIY Vakuumtisch

Dear MagI02,

Would it be possible to explain in English (sorry my German is poor...), how to set up the Arduino with a USB board. I bought my Stepcraft with a USB, thinking it would give me more options. But now I don't where to start with connecting my Arduino.

Thanks a lot!
