small problem has arisen, when running a simple pocket program, three quarters of the way through Z gets lost and starts cutting about 10mm deeper than original intended path, i am going nowhere but using up timber .
any other people having this issue.

Sounds like the z axis is losing steps. check the z axis and see if there is any play. i had a similar issue and the brass lead screw nut was worn.

lost steps on the z retract.
tune Z axis and lubricate it well.
turning down the rapid movement velocity can also help.
well tuned Z axis will run at 5000mm/min rapid velocity (under testing conditions)
always bring it back down lower than 3000 after testing for actual toolpath use.
