game pad issues.
Hello guys and gals.
I have a dumb question. Santa brought me a playstation controller. Not a xbox controller. I plugged it in. And nothing. I have gone to the add on for the xbox controller. there is no install option. Is it already installed? Does it have to be a xbox style? I wouldnt have thought it really mattered that much. Thanks in advance.
Thinking is like believing, both sometimes are bad advisors 😆 - knowledge is better.
X-box is close to an windows PC AND the xbox controller is directly supported by directX - I believe 😉
For my PS3-Controllers there are drivers available allowing them to be used in games. Maybe you find such a driver for your controllers (PS4?) as well.

This is for my stepcraft. And if you open the ummmm plug in file. there is a file for xbox controller. i will keep poking around.
What is the difference in a game supporting X-Box controllers and WinPC supporting X-Box controllers? There should not be a difference, both use directX.
So, the drivers I mean will add directX compatibility to the PS controllers. These drivers are available on the internet. The tool I use is called "better DS3", so a quick search for better DS4 showed me, that there are tools around for PS4 controllers. Another keyword is XInput, which is the directX component for user input devices, like the controller.
Good luck.

Hey there,
Don't worry, it's not a dumb question at all! PlayStation controllers and Xbox controllers use different input protocols on Windows. Your PlayStation controller isn't automatically recognized the same way an Xbox controller would be.
While there are workarounds like using third-party software (DS4Windows) to make your PlayStation controller mimic an Xbox controller, the default Windows "Xbox Controller" add-on won't help here because it's specifically designed for Xbox peripherals.
Since you're looking for alternatives, I've recently come across a site that offers an interesting take on gaming experiences. If you're ever curious about exploring different game modifications or unlocked features, you might want to view here to check out what they have available. It's quite impressive what they offer for gaming enthusiasts.
For your immediate issue though, I'd recommend searching for "DS4Windows" which is a popular tool that emulates an Xbox controller for your PlayStation device. It should solve your connection problem without needing to buy new hardware.
Hope that helps, and happy gaming with your new controller.
