When using a 3mm drill, I usually set the passes at 1.5 or 1.7mm with MDF, so I take the half of the diameter of the milling drill.
But it seems the tool hasn't any issues with 3 or 4mm passes, so what's the rule I should apply?

I guess this rule change for different material such as hardwood, plastic or aluminium.

Hi Denus,

I don't know if you can extract information from the list of parameters in the cnc-wiki, but there are values of 2mm diameter an 2 mm per pass at speeds of 10mm/sec listed: http://cnc-wiki.de/Betrieb/Fraesparameter

In my tests I did use at lead the diameter of the drill for each pass.

I guess this rule change for different material such as hardwood, plastic or aluminium.

That's for sure! It depends mostly on the hardness and if a material melts / burns.
