Here are some projects I have worked on.

I cut out everything on my Stepcraft except the hole in the cylinder and connecting rod and the screws.

I have found drawings on www.homemodelenginemachinist.com which I have modified. I have developed an oscillating version that can be seen on the latest photos.

Here is a wooden version. I had to temporarily switch to a flywheel in metal to make it work.
