Uploading files. was created by peterg1000
I know I am missing a trick here, but I have been unable to add a text file (Stepcraft profile file) to one of my recent posts.

Pictures are no problem, but adding a text file as an attachment using the "Add File" button doesn't seem to work.

It's probably something stupidly simple, but I haven't managed to fathom it so far!!

Please can someone enlighten the incompetant!!

There is no problem, however simple, that cannot be made more complicated by thinking about it.

Not all file extensions are allowed. Unfortunately the Forum will not give a hint to the user if a file is not allowed.
You can try to zip the txt file and upload the zip.

This should work.

a little bit hidden in the menu-bar "forum help/ Forum Hilfe" there is an advice-post for users to help them using the right and compatible file-extensions. In GERMAN-Forum you will find it

here

Maybe it is already translated into english in your forum.

Thanks very much for that hint - annoying that the forum doesn't advise about forbidden extensions. I'll give it a try on this post now I know to disguise the file!

Late Edit

Renaming .pro as a .txt file works!!!

Thanks MrMaJo and alpenkreuzer for your guidance - much appreciated

I've located the data on file restrictions in the German forum - the Google translation is as follows:-

Dear users!
The following restrictions apply when uploading image files:
allowed image formats: jpg, jpeg, gif, tif, bmp, png
allowed image size: max. 250kb
allowable image dimensions max. 1024x768 Px
To zoom out to a big picture, we recommend an image converter. This is available as a free tool in the network, for example, Tinypic, which you can download here: Download Tinypic
The following restrictions apply when uploading other files:
Allowed file formats: DXF, DWG, STL, din, HPGL, PLT, txt, pdf, zip, rar, e25, CDR, xls, doc, WPI WPW, sys, WTI, xlm
allowed file size: max. 2000kb
We hope to have given you with this information an assistance!

Pity this isn't available on the English forum!!!!!!
