So, when I used an industrial grade machine I could pause the operation, move the tool to another position, check/measure things, and hitting a button the tool would go to the previous position and continue to work without problems.

There isn't a button for this in UCCNC (I don't know in winpcnc) but it's possible to do!

Let's assume the machine is already working and that the default offset G54 is being used.

The steps are:
  1. Stop the cycle (CYCLE STOP button).
  2. Select G55 or another offset (don't use our current offset G54).
  3. Zero all axis.
  4. Move the tool with the Jog to another position, do any checks on your work or whatever.
  5. Once you're done, hit GOTO ZERO button.
  6. Select G54 to get back our initial offset.
  7. Start the cycle (CYCLE START button).

At this point the cycle will resume as normal.

To repeat it always follow all the steps.

This "trick" works for me and I hope it works for you.
