🎯 Step‑by‑Step Setup: Fusion 360 → UCCNC (Stepcraft)

1. Download the Stepcraft Post Processor

  • Visit autodesk's post library at cam.autodesk.com and search for "Stepcraft" or "UCCNC".

  • You should find a Generic STEPCRAFT_UCCNC post‑processor file (cam.autodesk.com, hci.rwth-aachen.de).

2. Install the Post Processor in Fusion 360

  • In Fusion 360 CAM, click Post Process → Setup → Open Folder to open the local posts directory.

  • On macOS, Fusion stores personal posts at:

    ~/Autodesk/Fusion 360 CAM/Posts

On Windows, it's typically under your Fusion settings folder.

  • Place the downloaded .cps or .post file there, then restart or refresh Fusion (stepcraft-systems.com, Autodesk Forums, stepcraft-systems.com).

3. Use the Custom Post in Fusion

  • In the post‑processing dialog, select the “Personal Posts” category to find your Stepcraft post.

  • Select it and configure output filename, program number, feed overrides, etc.

  • Fusion will produce a .nc file in G-code for UCCNC to read (Autodesk Forums, hci.rwth-aachen.de).

4. Load the G‑Code in UCCNC

  • Transfer the .nc file to your Windows PC running UCCNC (via USB or network share).

  • In UCCNC, use the Load command to preview the toolpath—it should display a correct travel path and tool motion (hci.rwth-aachen.de, Reddit).

  • If you see arc errors or oversized travel beyond soft limits, try alternative versions of the Stepcraft post‑processor, or tweak UCCNC configuration accordingly (Autodesk Forums).

⚙️ Optional: 4th Axis Support

If your Stepcraft is equipped with a 4th rotary axis:

  • There’s a modified .cps post-processor configured to handle an A-axis aligned with Y (default) or X.

  • You can adjust the axis alignment in the file (e.g. change [0,1,0] to [1,0,0]) or flip direction with a negative value (stepcraft-systems.com, scriptbaldeball.com).

🛠️ Tips, Known Issues & Fixes

Issue Fix
Plunging at job start or end Avoid rapid moves like G53 Z0; select a different Stepcraft‑compatible post so the tool retracts properly before start/after finish (Autodesk Forums).
Arc errors or infinite toolpaths Try different versions of the Stepcraft/UCCNC posts. One variant resolves arc loop issues that other posts produce (Autodesk Forums).
Y-axis soft-limit exceed Calibration mismatch: adjust tool orientation or redefine home position in post settings or UCCNC limits (Autodesk Forums).

✅ Recap:

  1. Download the Stepcraft UCCNC post‑processor from Autodesk.

  2. Install it into your Fusion 360 Posts folder (local or cloud).

  3. Post process CAM toolpaths using that Stepcraft post under "Personal Posts".

  4. Transfer and load the .nc in UCCNC for controlling your Stepcraft machine.

  5. Debug by selecting alternate posts or modifying settings if needed.

🧠 Community Insights

  • A Stepcraft user described using Fusion → Mach3 post initially, then switching to the official UCCNC post to fix travel and arc errors (Autodesk Forums, Autodesk Forums).

  • Others echo that Fusion + UCCNC with the correct post processor yields a reasonably clean workflow for hobbyist milling in wood or aluminum (Reddit).
