Maybe not the right place, but what about the eurotool24 G-500 miller?
It's a very nice piece of hardware, with 4 x Toshiba Nema 23 stepper motors, ball-screw SFK 1204 etc.
The price is ok too: around 1100,- without spindle.

The only "issue" is the missing t-slot table, but this can be found elsewhere for +/- 200,- euro.

I love my StepCraft 420/2 but it's really too light, the G-500 isn't a professional machine either, but has stronger motors (2 x on the X axis!), ball-screw and is nicely build (all aluminium parts). I would add some limit switches to it, but that's doable.

That looks mouthwatering - proper ballscrewa and linear bearings, things I wish the Stepcraft had !!

There is no problem, however simple, that cannot be made more complicated by thinking about it.

My idea too.

As for the t-slot table (400 x 600 according to the seller): it can be found here: link

I'm really thinking of selling my SC 420/2 and purchasing this one instead.
Alexander Krug from eurotools24 is giving a reply on every question within 30 minutes (during the weekend) which is a good point too.

Of course: this machine needs a proper base and limit switches, but on the other hand, that shows how customisable it is.

Hmm.. I like the stronger motors and ballscrews, but a couple of things would concern me. The machine frame doesn't look as rigid as the Stepcraft 2, and the quoted speed of 2,000mm/min is very slow - I run my SC840 at 5,000mm/min rapids, and it can comfortably cut foam with a dragknife at that speed.

That being said, I do wish that the ballscrew option for the Stepcraft had materialised - particularly for the Z axis to make good quality 3D milling possible.

Cheers,
David

Nice description. I looking for on ebay. The pictures say all.
I never change my steppi against this.
More precision - more pay.

I had a lot of fun with the StepCraft, but I was kind of disappointed about the Nema 17 motors (especially for the 600 and 840 models!).

So yeah, I sold my 420/2 and purchased the G-500 frame (1100,- including the Kress 800, no delivery costs).
The frame is rock solid, ball screws all around and 4 x Nema 23 step motors and a TB6560 4V3 controller card.

This thing is massive comparing to the 420!

I made a concept for a (tooling aluminium) bed, and a local metal worker made it for me: check out the beast!
I'm now installing all the electronics in a 19" case, the shielded cables are already done.

Btw: this machine can reach much higher speeds easily.
The seller just want the customers to stay safe and use lower speed settings.

I can tell it moves way faster than the 420 anyway.

I own the 840/2 and I have to say the Nema 17 motors work great. I've cut 25mm solid wood and I haven't had any problem at all.

I don't know for metal alloys though.

One good thing about Nema 17 is that when you crash the tool by accident, the motors stop as soon as it happens and you save the tool. With bigger motors the tool will simply break due to the big force.

(this happened to me a few times already)

The G-500 does look my solid than the stepcraft which would be better if it had two motors each side for the y axis.
interesting to see a customer comparison from Denus having owned both.

I don't expect any of you to follow my steps: the Stepcraft is just fine, and I've enjoyed mine.

This is for me a little step further, and what I like the most are the two motors mounted directly on the X-axis, but I'm also very pleased with the ball-screw all around.
But it's not a system ready-to-go and require more work than a Stepcraft machine, even the kit version.

I'm now installing the electronics, and that takes a lot of time...

As for the risk of breaking a tool: it doesn't matter if it's a nema 17 or a nema 23, the bit can snap but will never stop the motors...
I don't know how that's even possible. (or there's a severe issue!)

Whats the maximum cutting size on this model?

I could do with something of this build type that is bigger than the SC600, and nearing SC840 size.
